What Makes Aura Clarity Different
Not marketing.
A clinical lens specification.
Aura Clarity glasses use FL-41 tinted lenses — a rose-amber optical filter originally developed following clinical research in Birmingham, England.
FL-41 is not a marketing term. It is a specific lens specification designed to filter wavelengths of light that research associates with migraine photophobia — specifically in the blue-green range of approximately 480–520nm.
This page explains exactly what our glasses do, what the research says, what certifications they hold, and what is included with every purchase. We believe you deserve full transparency — not just product claims.
Important: FL-41 glasses are not a medical treatment or cure for migraine. Individual responses vary. They are a non-pharmacological support tool. If you experience severe or sudden-onset migraine, please consult your GP or a neurologist.
The Science Behind FL-41
The research
we are built on.
Light sensitivity (photophobia) affects an estimated 80–90% of people during a migraine attack, according to the American Migraine Foundation.
Current research suggests that intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs) — particularly sensitive to blue-green light — play a role in the pain pathway between the eye and the trigeminal nucleus in the brain.
FL-41 lenses reduce transmission of the blue-green wavelengths (480–520nm) most associated with this pathway, while preserving functional vision for everyday use.

Why Standard Sunglasses Don’t Work Indoors
Dark lenses can actually
make photophobia worse.
Wearing standard dark sunglasses indoors causes dark adaptation — your eyes adjust to the reduced light and become more reactive when you return to normal lighting. This can make photophobia worse over time. FL-41 lenses work differently.
- ✕Block all light indiscriminately
- ✕Cause dark adaptation — eyes become more reactive
- ✕Not designed for indoor or screen use
- ✕Can worsen light sensitivity over time
- ✕No selective wavelength filtering
- ✓Selectively filter 480–520nm wavelengths
- ✓Preserve functional vision for daily use
- ✓Safe and practical for indoor wear
- ✓Designed specifically for screen work
- ✓Clinically researched lens specification

Frequently Asked Questions
Questions we hear most often.
Many UK neurologists and headache specialists are familiar with FL-41 lens technology, though it is not currently available on the NHS. The Migraine Trust and National Migraine Centre both reference light management as part of migraine management strategies.
Yes. All Aura Clarity frames are non-prescription and work comfortably over contact lenses. The frames are designed with standard sizing to accommodate most face shapes and contact lens wearers.
FL-41 lenses have been studied in children (Blackburn et al., 1991). However, our current frame range is designed for adults. Contact us to discuss suitability for your child — we are happy to advise.
Yes. Many customers use Aura Clarity specifically for screen-heavy work. The FL-41 filter reduces blue-green light from LED and LCD screens, which is among the most common photophobia triggers for desk workers.
All current Aura Clarity frames are non-prescription only. Prescription options are in development. In the meantime, they work comfortably over contact lenses.
Individual responses vary. We recommend wearing them consistently for 2–4 weeks in your specific triggering environments before assessing results. Our 30-day guarantee gives you enough time to fairly evaluate them.
